Snow Slime

We attempted this in class today!!

http://www.growingajeweledrose.com/2012/12/slime28.html

A HUGE thank you to our Room Moms, Mrs. Madar and Mrs. Gazit, for organizing supplies and helping out! We learned that I may not be a scientist, but I sure am grateful for the smiles on the faces of all of my students today!

Winter Break Work

WINTER BREAK READING PACKET

Due: January 4, 2016

Dear Parents,

The year is quickly flying by! This means our state’s standardized test (FSA) will be here before we know it. Our classes have been preparing for this assessment and working hard to do their best on these tests.

In order to ensure that the students are reviewing the reading skills being tested, a Winter Break Reading Packet has been attached. The packet includes comprehension passages and questions based on the FSA.

Remind your child to use the UNRREAL reading strategy that is practiced daily in class as they are working through the packet.

The UNRREAL strategy is as follows:

U- underline the title
N- number the paragraphs
R- read the questions and the answers (circle keywords)
R- read the passage
E- eliminate wrong answers
A- answer
L- look back for evidence

The students can use their Interactive Reading Notebook to review the notes they have taken on the different skills throughout the school year, and to answer written response questions. Please encourage your child to write responses using complete sentences and provide evidence by referencing the text.

Additionally, we will be assigning a number of IXL sections for your child to complete over the course of the Winter Break. The sections are all review skills, and each should be completed to a score of 80. The sections are as follows: T.6, T.7, T.8, T.9, T.10, I.3, G.19, O.2

We will begin multiplication fact quizzes upon our return. Please take this break to practice multiplication facts with your child.

We can make your child’s test experience positive and successful by working together.

Thank you for your help and support!

Think Central

Hi parents,

In order to not send another email regarding this website, I decided to write here.

This process has been explained to the children, so don't let them fool you!! ;)

Here is the link for Think Central.

https://www-k6.thinkcentral.com/ePC/logout.do

This is the website the students can use to access their reading, math, and science textbooks. They can also practice skills, review material, and re-read the lesson/stories.

I have written their login and password into the front of their agenda. If there are two words, they have a login different from their password. If there is only one thing written, it means their login and password are the same.

Please try logging in to ensure it works.
Be sure you are choosing Broward Charter Schools, and the Ben Gamla school with our zip code (33020). You should then be able to go to "My Library" to see the items available.

Let me know if there are any questions!!!

More Math Practice

I have found a new way for students to continue to practice their mathematics knowledge via Think Central.

Students may access the Go Math! Animated Math Models. (The button looks like Carmen Sandiedgo!)

Students may practice any of the skills we have already covered (i.e. rounding, multiplication, graphing, etc.).

BUT, the fractions lessons will be particularly helpful moving forward.

Have fun!! :)

NEEDED ASAP

Parents,

Both of our mini iPad covers are falling apart from use. Below is a link for a really sturdy (and cute!) case. Another teacher in the building recommended them to me. If anyone is interested, I would honor the purchase with volunteer hours.

Let me know, so we don't order too many! :)

Behavior & Homework Incentive Party

It appears that many students have forgotten basic behavior expectations that were discussed during the first week of school. So, in order to encourage appropriate behavior we are having a Behavior and Homework Party on Friday, February 13 in the afternoon.

The students and I have discussed behavior expected in order to attend this celebration. Students that do not earn this celebration will not attend.

Some of my expectations are:

  • following classroom rules
  • homework turned in every day
  • respect
  • responsibility
  • good behavior in ALL classes (Hebrew and P.E., too!)

Please ask your child about this discussion at home and e-mail me if you have any questions or concerns.

FSA Friday's will begin tomorrow. My students may not be with me during this time. Please know each student has been placed where he or she will be to have their most success!!
